Early days in Pontic were spent sleeping on the floor of an unfurnished upstairs apartment, warmed by only his overcoat as he was opening a shoe store in the space on the first floor. For exercise he swam laps in the Pontiac public pool. Sundays he would pick up all his grandchildren in a horse drawn buggy to attend church services. He became a mayor of the town and operated a local shoe company. He died in the town of Appleton Wisconsin trying to stop a runaway team of horses as he was overrun. Such is the legend, passed down by relatives and family of this indomitable spirit. I never knew him but admired him greatly.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15871000059115817258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697913671320216364.post-11478435418758330432020-10-21T08:33:03.077-07:002020-10-21T08:33:03.077-07:00I am a direct descendant.
